TWA at the Museums+Heritage Show 2014

We’re back from a very busy two days exhibiting at the Museums + Heritage Show 2014!

Our Digitisation Consultants Simon and Calum attended the Show, and had a non-stop two days catching up with our most important clients from the cultural heritage sector: sharing the latest developments in our digitisation processes and showcasing the newest version of our popular PastView digital collections management software.

Highlights from the Museums + Heritage Show

This year’s Show featured over 40 talks from myriad experts in the industry. Particular highlights included advice on visitor research from Angharad Owens of Visit Wales, insights into what types of project are most successful at achieving Heritage Lottery Funding from Fiona Talbot of HLF, and information on the latest developments in copyright law from Emily Goodhand, Copyright & Compliance Officer at University of Reading.

Another talk, which received particular attention on the Show’s Twitter feed, was from Patricia Smithen, Head of Conservation at Tate Modern, and Rachel Barker, Conservator for the Rothko Project. Patricia and Rachel detailed the operational impact of the Rothko painting “Black on Maroon” being vandalised at the Tate Modern gallery in 2012, and the subsequent conservation project they undertook.

From the exhibitors arena, our team were amazed by Sonic Paintings product, which adds interactive sound effects to paintings that change based on the viewers position relative to the artwork; adding an entirely new audible dimension to the artwork.

Catching Up

Of course for our team the main highlight of the Show was meeting face-to-face with some of our key clients again (such as John Arcus of Reading Libraries, John Rochester of Royal Hospital Chelsea, and Stephanie Killingbeck of The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers) and finding out how our services can help them further their digital preservation strategies.
