TownsWeb Archiving were delighted to be one of the sponsors for this year’s Business Archives Council & Business Archives Council of Scotland's “Just the Ticket!” Conference, held at the National Railway Museum in York.
The event brought together professionals from across the archives and heritage sector for a day of insight, collaboration, and discussion. With a packed programme exploring innovation, community engagement, and emerging technologies, the conference offered valuable takeaways for everyone involved.
The day opened with a warm welcome from Andrew McLean, Head Curator and Assistant Director at the National Railway Museum. We then moved into a varied and engaging agenda that explored everything from AI and digital transformation to community partnerships and sector-wide projects.
As one of the conference sponsors, TownsWeb Archiving was proud to support an event that champions innovation across archival practice.
During the afternoon session, attendees joined us for the TownsWeb Archiving Sponsor Spotlight, presented by Nathanael Liu, who gave an overview of our digitisation services, as well as our access & discovery platform PastView.
The programme continued with a wide range of talks, including:
- Dr Erin Lee’s session on building a methodology for archiving the work of the National Theatre.
- Examples of co-production and community engagement, such as Sainsbury Archive’s “Food For Talk” project.
- Guardian News and Media Archive’s work with volunteers to widen access to photography collections.
- A thoughtful presentation from Geoff Shearcroft of AOC Architecture on public engagement and design.
The day concluded with closing remarks followed by a relaxed drinks reception, giving delegates time to reconnect and reflect on everything shared.
To add a little extra excitement to the day, we held a prize draw for attendees. The winner was announced in a short video presented by Casper Smithson and John Wallace, which you can view below.
We were thrilled to reveal that the winner of our luxury Marks and Spencer hamper was Maayan Priel, Digital Archivist at Grant William & Sons. Congratulations to Maayan, and thank you to everyone who took part!
We thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many archivists, curators, records managers, and sector partners. A huge thank you goes to the organisers, speakers, sponsors, and everyone who joined us in York. It was a pleasure to support a conference that continues to inspire and move the sector forward.
We are already looking forward to the next event which will take place in Edinburgh in November 2026, and to continuing the conversations sparked throughout the day.
